Celebrate Advent At Mount Calvary Lutheran Church

Midweek Advent Series – Come join us for Advent prayers and praises as we read the historic Friday readings of Advent that encouraged saints for hundreds of years. Our services will be each Wednesday during Advent at 7 PM. We will use the service of Evening Prayer (non-communion). Advent Soup Dinners will be served in the Evangelism Wing from 5:45—6:30 PM, so please come when you can! Sign-up sheets will be in the narthex for attendance, as well as soup and bread contributions. Help cleaning up at 6:30 before the service will be appreciated!

The Lutheran Church is the Singing Church

Propers Choir will sing on Sunday, December 17. This informal choir meets before the service on occasional dates to practice pieces to be sung for worship. Propers Choir takes its name from the parts of the liturgy each week that are specific or “proper” to that Sunday such as hymns, psalms, and introits, selections that this choir will often sing. Meet in the Choir Room at 8:30AM to practice on December 17 if you can join us!

Receive the Rite Sounds at Mount Calvary

The Lancaster famous group of the Rite Sounds sang “The Clouds of Judgment Gather” (LSB 513) on Sunday, November 26. An audio recording of the hymn can be heard here:

1   The clouds of judgment gather,
The time is growing late;
Be sober and be watchful,
Our judge is at the gate:
The judge who comes in mercy,
The judge who comes in might
To put an end to evil
And diadem the right.

2   Arise, O true disciples;
Let wrong give way to right,
And penitential shadow
To Jesus’ blessèd light:
The light that has no evening,
That knows no moon or sun,
The light so new and golden,
The light that is but one.

3   The home of fadeless splendor,
Of blooms that bear no thorn,
Where they shall dwell as children
Who here as exiles mourn;
The peace of all the faithful,
The calm of all the blest,
Inviolate, unfading,
Divinest, sweetest, best.

4   Oh, happy, holy portion,
Relief for all distressed,
True vision of true beauty,
Refreshment for the blest!
Strive now to win that glory,
Toil now to gain that light;
Send hope ahead to grasp it
Till hope be lost in sight.

The Second Sunday in Advent at Mount Calvary Lutheran

Advent centers our hearts on the coming of the Lord. On this Second Sunday in Advent, we hear about the blessed Second Coming of the Lord. As we wait, we do so with expectation, and in repentance. Our Lord will return to lead home His bride, the Church.
