Celebrate Reformation Day with Oktoberfest at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church!
Reformation Day is a wonderful occasion to give thanks for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and enjoy the fellowship of our brothers and sisters in Christ. This year, Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Lititz, Pennsylvania, invites you to celebrate with a festive Reformation Day Oktoberfest Mitbringbuffet (potluck) on Saturday, October 31, from 3:00 to 5:30 PM. Join us for an afternoon of German-inspired food, singing, dancing, laughter, and fellowship. Families, friends, and guests are warmly welcome to share in this joyful gathering!
Reformation Day: Celebrating the Gospel of Jesus Christ
On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther published his Ninety-Five Theses, calling for theological discussion concerning repentance and indulgences. The Lutheran Reformation would come to emphasize the biblical teaching that sinners are justified by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ, apart from works of the Law (Romans 3:28; Ephesians 2:8–9). As Lutherans, we celebrate Reformation Day not merely to remember historical events, but to give thanks for the enduring proclamation of Christ crucified and risen for sinners. The Augsburg Confession, Article IV, beautifully summarizes this teaching of justification through faith in Christ.

German Traditions, Food, and Christian Fellowship
Our Oktoberfest Mitbringbuffet brings together the rich cultural heritage associated with the Lutheran Reformation and the simple joy of gathering around a shared table. The Social Ministry team will provide the meat and beverages, while attendees are invited to bring German-style side dishes to share. A sign-up sheet is available with suggested dishes, and Mary Anne Sylvester can provide recipes for anyone who would appreciate a little culinary inspiration. Guests are also welcome to bring their own beer.
An Afternoon of Food, Music, Games, and Laughter
There will be food, dancing, singing, hilarity, prizes, and plenty of laughter throughout the afternoon! Children can enjoy games and a craft activity, making this an enjoyable event for the whole family. Whether you are a longtime member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church or are becoming acquainted with our congregation, this is an opportunity to build friendships and enjoy Christian fellowship. We look forward to sharing an afternoon of celebration with our neighbors throughout Lititz and Lancaster County.
Many Ways to Participate and Help
Not everyone enjoys preparing a potluck dish, and that is perfectly fine! In addition to bringing a German-style side, volunteers are welcome to assist with setting up before the celebration or cleaning up afterward. Every contribution helps make the afternoon enjoyable for the congregation and our guests. Please sign up to let us know you are coming and indicate how you would like to participate.
