Support Our Troops: Mount Calvary Lutheran Church Cares for Deployed Service Members
At Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Lititz, PA, we give thanks to God for the men and women who serve our nation in the Armed Forces. Their service often requires long separations from family, friends, and the familiar comforts of home. As Christians, we have an opportunity to demonstrate our gratitude through prayer, encouragement, and practical acts of Christian love. This fall, our congregation is continuing its efforts to support American service members deployed overseas.
Supporting a Mount Calvary Member and His Fellow Soldiers in Poland
Mount Calvary is continuing to support Matthew Newell, a friend of our congregation who has visited with Pastor Seifferlein and expressed an interest in becoming a member. Matthew serves in the National Guard at Fort Indiantown Gap in Pennsylvania and is currently deployed to Poland, where his assignment is expected to continue until approximately January 2027. Our congregation previously sent gifts to Matthew and his fellow service members, and they expressed their sincere appreciation for this generosity. As Veterans Day approaches in November, we would like to send another collection of helpful supplies and personal encouragement.
Requested Donations for Our Deployed Troops
Because these service members regularly participate in overnight missions, travel-size supplies are particularly useful. We ask those contributing to select practical items that can be easily carried and used while away from their regular accommodations. The following donations have been specifically requested by Matthew and his fellow troops. Please note the important restrictions concerning wipes and beverages.
- Travel-size stick deodorant
- Travel-size body wash
- Travel-size shaving cream
- Travel-size shampoo
- Alcohol-free wet wipes (required)
- Protein bars
- Powdered caffeine products
- Playtex Sport tampons
- Powdered energy drink mixes (no liquids)
Donation Collection Dates at Mount Calvary
A donation basket will be available in the narthex at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church on October 4, October 11, and October 18. Members and friends of the congregation are encouraged to contribute any of the requested items as they are able. Our goal is to assemble another meaningful collection of supplies to honor and encourage these service members near Veterans Day in mid-November. This ministry of care will also continue beyond the present collection.
Sharing God’s Word and Christian Encouragement
Alongside these practical gifts, Mount Calvary will include Christian devotional materials for the men and women serving overseas. While personal supplies provide comfort during demanding assignments, God’s Word offers something far greater: the promises of Christ, whose mercy and faithfulness endure in every circumstance. As the psalmist declares, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1, ESV). We pray that these devotional resources will provide encouragement and direct their hearts toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
Join Us in Prayer and Christian Service
We thank everyone who has supported this effort and invite our neighbors throughout Lititz, Lancaster, Manheim, and Lancaster County to remember our deployed troops in prayer. Please pray for Matthew, his fellow National Guard service members, their families, and all those serving far from home. If you have questions about donating, please contact the Mount Calvary church office. Together, we can express our gratitude through generosity, Christian fellowship, and faithful prayer.
