Third Sunday in Advent at Mount Calvary

Join the Mount Calvary Midweek Advent Services

Each Wednesday at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church

Midweek Advent Series – Come join us for Advent prayers and praises as we read the historic Friday readings of Advent that encouraged saints for hundreds of years. Our services will be each Wednesday during Advent at 7 PM. We will use the service of Evening Prayer (non-communion). Advent Soup Dinners will be served in the Evangelism Wing from 5:45—6:30 PM, so please come when you can! Sign-up sheets will be in the narthex for attendance, as well as soup and bread contributions. Help cleaning up at 6:30 before the service will be appreciated!

The Christmas Service Schedule is Available

Mount Calvary’s Christmas service schedule is available here. Congregants are encouraged to come to both the 9 AM and 8 PM Christmas Eve services as well as the 9 AM Christmas Day Divine Service. These three services feature different hymns, liturgies, and preaching and give a full celebration of the Christmas story of Christ’s incarnation and birth. As the holiday itself bears the name “Christ-Mass” we celebrate these holy days rightly by coming to the manger (feeding trough for animals) to receive the One whose incarnate flesh is given to us in bread and wine for the forgiveness of all our sins. Full joy is received as we take up Jesus Word & Sacrament and understand anew the meaning of what God has done for us. Presents and family gatherings can wait, and pale in comparison to the real Christmas Gift.

The Third Sunday in Advent

John the Baptist, the one to point to Jesus during an exciting ministry of preaching and baptism, is the one who also pointed to Jesus during the disappointments of his imprisonment. Even in Herod’s prison, John is sending messengers to Jesus as he wonders (and possibly doubts) if Jesus is truly the Promised Messiah. Our haunting questions find their answers as we go to our Lord and Savior Jesus in the places where He is found (in His Word and Sacrament) and listen to His messages to and for us. John shows his greatness in life and in death in pointing us to the source of where our life comes from.

Join Adult Bible Class this week at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church

Adult Bible Class — In Romans chapter 13 Paul deals with life in this world. He exhorts us how as Christians we should interact with the authorities, love our neighbor, and avoid the world’s preoccupation with sexual activity, jealousies, and arguments. An audio recording of the class is available.  (Notes from the class are available here.)
