Summer Fun and Christian Fellowship at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church
Summer at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, has given our church family many opportunities to enjoy time together outside our regular worship and study. From the softball field to the baseball stadium and bowling alley, these gatherings have provided plenty of laughter, friendly competition, and memorable moments. More importantly, they have strengthened relationships among brothers and sisters in Christ and provided opportunities to welcome others into the life of our congregation.
At Mount Calvary, our life together is centered upon Christ and His gifts in Word and Sacrament. That shared faith also shapes the fellowship we enjoy throughout the week and throughout the year. Whether gathering for the Divine Service, Bible study, a meal, a ballgame, or an afternoon of bowling, Christians have the privilege of encouraging one another and building relationships that extend beyond Sunday morning.
A Successful Season for the Mount Calvary Softball Team
Our church softball team enjoyed another successful season this summer, with plenty of fun along the way. While everyone enjoys a good hit, a great catch, or a close game, the real value of the season was found in the friendships strengthened both on and off the field. Players, families, and supporters had another opportunity to spend time together while representing Mount Calvary in our Lancaster County community.
Activities like church softball provide a relaxed setting where people of different ages and backgrounds can get to know one another better. They also remind us that the Christian congregation is a community of real people who share life together. We are thankful for everyone who played, cheered, helped organize the season, and made this year’s softball schedule such an enjoyable part of our summer.
Mount Calvary at the Lancaster Barnstormers
Baseball continued to be part of our summer fun when members and friends of Mount Calvary gathered for an outing at a Lancaster Barnstormers game. It was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy an evening at the ballpark together while supporting our hometown Lancaster baseball team. One of the highlights came when our own Ivan Gonzalez had the privilege of throwing out the first pitch!
Church outings give families, longtime members, visitors, and newer members opportunities to visit and develop friendships in a casual setting. There is something wonderfully simple about sitting together at a baseball game, sharing conversation, enjoying the atmosphere, and cheering together. We are grateful for everyone who participated and helped make the Barnstormers outing another memorable Mount Calvary summer event.
Bowling with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of York
On Sunday, August 23, 2026, Mount Calvary enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of bowling with our friends from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of York, Pennsylvania. We gathered at Leisure Lanes in Centerville for an afternoon filled with strikes, spares, smiles, and, yes, perhaps a few gutter balls. Plenty of pizza and snacks helped keep everyone fueled as the friendly competition continued.
The greatest blessing of the afternoon, however, was simply being together. Our two Lutheran church families had an opportunity to renew existing friendships, make new ones, and enjoy Christian fellowship across congregational lines. We thank our friends from Good Shepherd for joining us and everyone who helped make the afternoon possible, and we are already looking forward to another opportunity to gather together.

These summer activities are not what makes the Church the Church. Our identity and unity are found in Jesus Christ, who gathers His people around His Word and Sacraments and gives us forgiveness, life, and salvation.
