Mount Calvary Lutheran Church Weekly Updates

Outreach Update with the 1-1-1 Missions

1-1-1 Reignited! 211,915… this is an amazing number. It could represent many things but for 1-1-1 it is the number of times an individual person, young and old, has put a dollar into one of the 1-1-1 collection boxes in 59 different participating congregations of our English District over the past five years. 1-1-1 is and has always been about many doing little and accomplishing much. $211,915 has been received by our District, above and beyond our regular District budget, to support and strengthen identified missions of our District as designated by Bishop Hardy. Our 2022-2023 1-1-1 identified missions were Logos, Philadelphia, PA and Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ukraine. Each of these missions received half of the 1-1-1 gifts received by our District in this time frame. Our 2023-2024 identified recipients are LCMS-U chapter just begun at Eastern Washington University, Cheney, Washington led by Pastor Marc DiConti and Nuer Language (South Sudanese) Ministry located at the Church of St. Mark – Lutheran, Mississauga, Ontario led by Pastor Philip Gai.

Of the 59 congregations that have participated over the years, 27 have participated every year. The dream from the beginning of 1-1-1 has always been that every English District congregation would participate in 1-1-1. To renew our emphasis of 1-1-1 we are intentionally focusing this year with the theme of “1-1-1 REIGNITED!” Bishop Hardy was recently interview by Rev. Thomas Engler about this renewed emphasis. In this interview Dr. Hardy shares his heart and thoughts about 1-1-1 and its value to the mission of our English District. To watch the click Hardy Interview

This is the power of many giving a little as we are moved by God’s Spirit. Won’t you join us?

October 22 Worship & Bible Class

Join us this Sunday as we hear the Parable of the Wedding Feast. Hear as the Father invites the world to the wedding of His Son. See the responses of many and who replaces them at the occasion. Hear about the one man who came in wearing his own clothes and how he is cast out. Consider what this means for you. You may prepare by reading the Propers of the day.

Old Testament: Isaiah 54:17-55:11

Psalm: Psalm 27:1-9

Epistle: Ephesians 5:15-21

Gospel: Matthew 22:1-14

Change can be taxing. Taking on a large project can seem daunting, but we should take comfort in knowing we aren’t going at it alone! Not only do we have each other, but we can look to God’s people of the past for guidance. Join us for the next two weeks of Sunday School as we continue looking at events in Holy Scripture where projects like our own were tackled by God’s people.  Look at the challenges they faced, the work they put in, and the things that were accomplished by God’s grace and blessing. Be encouraged and inspired as we think about the role we each have in this historic time at Mount Calvary. This week’s topic: Nehemiah & God’s People Rebuild the Temple after a time of National Unfaithfulness – Nehemiah chapter 1 & following.
