Mount Calvary Lutheran Church Meets Wednesday Evening for Divine Service

Lutheran Church in Lititz PA on Wednesday Evenings

Some announcements from Mount Calvary Church

Please join the Women of Mount Calvary for a Bible Class and time together on Saturday, February 10 from 2-3:30 PM. We will meet in the room just outside our temporary sanctuary, across from the choir room. This month we will look at John chapter 8:31-38 as we consider Jesus’ words that “the truth will set you free.” All women of the congregation are welcome to attend this class no matter what their knowledge is of the bible. Please speak with Mary Anne Sylvester or Deb Lynch for more information.

We recently received a letter and financial contribution for the Building Fund from Marilyn Taylor. Marilyn was a former president of our congregation. Her husband, Chuck, was in charge of building our church on Petersburg Road. As you can imagine, Marilyn was very involved in the building project as well! You may read her letter here.

Preparations for February 11 Worship at Mount Calvary Church & Bible Class

The hymn, Amazing Grace, says, “I once was blind, but now I see.” This Sunday we will look at our spiritual perception, blinded by sin, naturally unable to know and grasp the Truth. Even Christ’s good word and teaching sometimes does as little as putting a large light in front of a blind man, assuring him that now he can see. As the blind man in this story petitions Jesus to gain his sight, so we pray this Lent that the Lord would open our eyes to His love for us and be renewed in our love for others. We want to follow Jesus. You may prepare by reading the Propers of the day.

Old Testament: 1 Samuel 16:1-13

Psalm 89:18-29

Epistle: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

Gospel: Luke 18:31-43

Join us in Mount Calvary Lutheran Church Bible Class for a three-week study on The Cross of Jesus, its story, impact, and power. In preparation for considering the use of the cross in our renewed sanctuary, we will look at the biblical understanding of the cross, the history of its use as a symbol, and its purpose in our congregation. Come be informed and renewed as we consider the cross of Jesus Christ.

In the cross of Christ I glory,
Tow’ring o’er the wrecks of time.
All the light of sacred story
Gathers round its head sublime.
