Let’s Talk About Life

Do you know what the Pennsylvania Real Alternatives Programs are? Each Sunday our congregation prays for our elected leaders asking that justice and righteousness prevail in our land and commonwealth. At times we even mention them by name. One issue of justice is that of the life of the unborn. Did you know that while abortion is legal in Pennsylvania, historically the Real Alternatives program that the state funded, provided grants also to those pregnancy centers promoting women who want to keep their child? (See below for information about Real Alternatives.) Wouldn’t it make sense that those that call themselves “pro-choice” would truly have a balanced perspective and fund both abortion and its alternatives? Did you know that even under Democratic governors this funding stayed intact? Changes in the last two years with our current governor, however, has resulted in the ending of this program affecting, on the local level, the crisis pregnancy center in Lancaster that we support as our Mission, A Woman’s Concern (to the net loss of about $100,000 of pregnancy related services). Please note that the current governor and his administration need our prayers as he moves to an increasingly more pro-death/abortion view in our commonwealth rather than pro-choice or even pro-life. Recently we wrote state representative Brett Miller, a Christian man who represents my district in Landisville. In asking him what we should do he writes, “… continue to inform your people of what is happening.  Ask them to contact their elected representatives – both Representatives and Senators to let them know their views on this matter.” “… ask them to pray for us to know how to deal with this issue from a legislative standpoint.” “Next, ask them to pray that the people of Pennsylvania would know and understand the value of all life and that this would be the prevailing viewpoint all across Pennsylvania.” “Finally, ask them to stay engaged through fulfilling their civic duty to vote.” “Please reach out with any questions.” Let us stand up for those who are not given the ability to stand up for themselves. To learn more about these programs you can check (HERE) and (HERE)

Only the Lord can change the hearts and minds of the people, and He can use you as an instrument for prayer and action to help safe the lives of the most vulnerable of our neighbors as we consider Proverbs 24:11-12

Sexagesima Sunday at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church

On Sexagesima Sunday we hear the Parable of the Sower & the Seed (Luke 8:4-15). Jesus has come to sow the seed of the Word of God.
The bulletin can be found here.
The sermon text can be found here.
An audio recording of the sermon is available:

Let not the sly satanic foe
    This holy seed remove,
But give it root in ev’ry heart
To bring forth fruits of love.

So when the precious seed is sown,
     Life-giving grace bestow
That all whose souls the truth receive
     Its saving pow’r may know.
