Mount Calvary Lutheran Church on the First Sunday in Lent

Join Midweek Lenten Service at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church

Join us for our midweek Lenten service on Wednesday, February 21 at 7 PM as we consider the theme, “God has Chosen You.” We will study Paul’s preaching in 1 Thessalonians as we use the reflective service of Compline, so fitting for the season of Lent. Private Confession & Absolution will take place in the pastor’s study on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 28, and March 6 from 6:00 – 6:45 PM. Please note that Easter Sunday services will be held at 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM on March 31. Review the Lenten Service Schedule and come along side Christ on the journey to Jerusalem.

The First Sunday in Lent

Jesus faces Satan…and wins. Though emaciated after 40 days of fasting, Christ clings to the Word, trusts His Father, and eschews any thought that the devil’s promises are something worth following. He is our champion, come to win the fight against Satan for us. He is our hero, inspiring us soldiers to join the fight.

   O Lord, throughout these forty days
You prayed and kept the fast;
Inspire repentance for our sin,
And free us from our past.

    You strove with Satan, and You won;
Your faithfulness endured;
Lend us Your nerve, Your skill and trust
In God’s eternal Word.
