Mount Calvary Hosts Vacation Bible School
Mount Calvary Lutheran Church invites families, friends, neighbors, and guests from across Lancaster County to join us for Vacation Bible School each Wednesday evening in June from 6:00–8:00 PM. This year’s VBS theme focuses on the rich hymnody of the Christian Church and the timeless songs of the faith that have carried the Gospel of Jesus Christ across generations. VBS Dates and Schedule
Vacation Bible School will take place on June 3, June 10, June 17, and June 24 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Lititz, PA. Each evening will include craft time, activity time, music, lesson time, and a worship service beginning at 7:00 PM that is open to all members, guests, friends, and visitors. The first evening on June 3 will begin early at 5:45 PM as families gather for a special kickoff meal together. On the final evening, June 24, families and children will enjoy an ice cream treat together following the service as we celebrate another joyful year of Vacation Bible School.
Learning the Faith Through Historic Christian Hymns
This year’s focus on historic Christian hymnody offers children and families an opportunity to learn not only the melodies of the Church, but also the deep biblical truths confessed through these hymns. Throughout the centuries, faithful Christians have sung the Word of God in worship, prayer, and praise. At Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, these hymns continue to shape and strengthen the faith of God’s people today.
The rich musical heritage of the Church stretches back to the early centuries of Christianity. Some hymns connect directly to the ancient Church Fathers, including Saint Ambrose of Milan, who lived from 340–397. Hymns such as “Savior of the Nations, Come” have been sung by Christians for generations and continue to proclaim the incarnation of Christ with beauty and theological depth.
From Saint Ambrose to Martin Luther
Families will also learn about the hymns of the Lutheran Reformation, including Martin Luther’s beloved hymn “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.” These hymns are not simply old songs. They are clear confessions of biblical truth that teach children and adults to sing the faith, remember God’s promises, and rejoice in Christ crucified and risen.
