Midweek Lenten Sermon & Updates from Mount Calvary Church

Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in the Season of Lent

Mount Calvary Men’s Bible Study

Men’s Bible Study Breakfast will meet at 7:30 AM on Saturday, February 24 at the Lititz Family Cupboard Restaurant, 12 W. Newport Rd, Lititz. Come enjoy a hearty breakfast and good conversation with your brothers in Christ. This month we continue our study on manliness as we look at the life of Solomon. Join us as we strengthen our understanding in our God-given roles as men in our lives, church, and world.

Mount Calvary Family Group Gathering Tomorrow

The Young Families Group and the Young at Heart will meet Saturday, February 24 at 5:30 PM for a potluck (bring a dish or two to pass) and discussion-based study at Pastor and Erin Seifferlein’s home, 375 Camp Meeting Rd, Landisville. After supper, the children will be excused to enjoy some organized playtime. We are continuing John Kleinig’s book “Wonderfully Made: A Protestant Theology of the Body.” In this book study we hope to dig into the deep mystery of our bodies, who made them, why they matter, and what they were made for. We will consider, along the way, how many (if not most) of the issues facing our modern Western culture are over the purpose, use, and importance of the body. We will learn to see our bodies how God sees them.

Thank You Parents!

Parents, we love the noise! In our new sanctuary space we are blessed that YOU are here. Thanks for encouraging us by bringing your children to church every Sunday. Check out this article from last week’s WSJ: If a Parish Isn’t Crying, It’s Dying

A Midweek Lenten Service was held on Wednesday, February 21.

The bulletin for the evening service is available here.

Dearly Departed in Mount Calvary

Chuck Miller, a long-time member of Mount Calvary, entered eternal life on Thursday, February 22. Blessed be his memory. Please keep his family in your prayers this Lent season.

Mount Calvary Church Preparation: February 25 Worship & Bible Class

In ancient times this Sunday was called “Remember Sunday.” This title comes from Psalm 25:6, a cry of distress where we pray, “Remember your mercy, O LORD!” We cling to God’s promises, even when it seems that He is not for us, but against us. Both in the Old Testament lesson of Jacob wrestling with God, and also in the Gospel of the Canaanite woman who tries to get Jesus to hear her pleas, we learn that we must cling to God’s promises and believe in them, even when it appears that He does not listen. Great faith clings to the Lord, never lets go, and prevails. You may prepare by reading the Propers of the day.

Sunday Readings:

Old Testament: Genesis 32:22-30

Psalm: Psalm 121:1-8

Epistle: 1 Thessalonians 4:1-7

Gospel: Matthew 15:21-28

Lenten Hymn Sing – Everyone is enthusiastically invited to sing 10 or 12 hymns with your Mount Calvary family in the sanctuary on Sunday right after Divine Service. (That is, right after Coffee and Snack!) This is for everyone, even and especially if you think you can’t sing. We hope to see you there!

Pastor Seifferlein visited Cornwall Manor where Joanne Burg resides. In her working years, Joanne oversaw the work of the heart transplant unit at Hershey Medical. She was born in North Dakota. Please keep her and all of our brothers and sisters in Christ that are unable to join us in the celebration of the Divine Service.
