Faith, Fellowship, and Fun: The Growing Young Adults Group at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church
At Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Lancaster County, PA, a vibrant and growing Young Adults Group is bringing new energy and deeper fellowship to the congregation. This Christ-centered community of young men and women, led by David-Paul Schulze and Noah Kauffman, has quickly become one of the most active and spiritually engaged groups in the church. With a heart for God’s Word, a love of Lutheran liturgy and theology, and a commitment to building strong Christian friendships, the Young Adults Group is thriving and welcoming others to join the journey.
The Young Adults Group brings together individuals in their 20s and 30s who are eager to grow in their faith and build lasting relationships in a like-minded, confessional Lutheran setting. Whether single, married, in school, or already deep into careers, the members of this group share a common desire: to live out their faith boldly and joyfully in today’s world.
A Group on the Move – Literally
Recent events hosted by the Young Adults Group reflect the dynamic spirit and thoughtful planning of its leadership. One memorable outing was a summer concert at Longs Park in Lancaster, PA. Gathering under the open sky, surrounded by music, food, and fellowship, group members had the opportunity to relax, unwind, and enjoy God’s creation in community.
Another spiritually enriching experience took the group to Baltimore, MD, where they attended a reverent and beautifully celebrated Divine Service at Our Saviour Lutheran Church. Worshiping with fellow Lutherans and experiencing the broader church beyond Lancaster helped deepen their appreciation for the liturgy and the unity of doctrine found in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS).
More recently, the group embarked on a scenic hike to Chickies Rock, a popular overlook along the Susquehanna River. As they trekked through wooded trails and gathered atop the cliffs to take in the sweeping views, conversations naturally flowed—about life, faith, and everything in between. These events aren’t simply social outings—they’re intentional opportunities to foster spiritual growth, mutual encouragement, and the joy of Christian friendship.
Rooted in Worship and the Word
While the group enjoys fun and adventure, its foundation is unmistakably spiritual. Many of the young adults are regular participants in Mount Calvary’s Midweek Divine Services, where they gather midweek to hear the preaching of the Word, receive the Sacrament, and pray together in the traditional liturgical rhythm of the Church.
Following the service, the group often continues its evening with fellowship at The Mad Chef Brewery and Eatery in Lancaster. These informal gatherings provide space for meaningful conversations about theology, Scripture, and everyday Christian living. Over food and drinks, discussions often range from the sermons they’ve heard, to apologetics, to how they can remain faithful witnesses in today’s cultural landscape. It’s not unusual for a casual Wednesday night gathering to evolve into an impromptu theological roundtable, equal parts insightful and uplifting.
Leadership with Vision
The success and vitality of the Young Adults Group can be attributed in large part to the faithful leadership of David-Paul Schulze and Noah Kauffman. Their enthusiasm, hospitality, and solid grounding in Lutheran doctrine have helped shape a culture of inclusion and authenticity. Both leaders understand the unique challenges facing young adults today; from navigating careers and relationships to staying faithful in a culture that often dismisses traditional Christian values. With wisdom and compassion, they are guiding the group to be a place of support, accountability, and joy.
Looking Ahead
As the group continues to grow in both numbers and spiritual depth, the future is bright. Plans are underway for additional hikes, baseball games, dinners, service opportunities, and perhaps even a retreat to further enrich the group’s life together. At the heart of all these activities is a desire to strengthen faith, build lifelong friendships, and joyfully confess Christ in all things.
In a world that often isolates and overwhelms young adults, Mount Calvary’s Young Adults Group offers a rare and refreshing alternative: a community rooted in Word and Sacrament, built on shared values, and energized by a living and active faith. It’s not just a group, it’s a family.
