Festival of Pentecost in the Lutheran Church in Lancaster PA
Our congregation’s celebration of the Festival of Pentecost will take place on Sunday, May 19. One of the three Chief Festivals of the Church Year, Pentecost commemorates the distribution of the Holy Spirit to the Apostles fifty days after Jesus’ resurrection. Pentecost is also when confirmation of our catechumens takes place. This year, Timothy Lin, Theo Seifferlein, Hiikaa Duguma, and Andrew Holton will be confirmed and be added to the communicant membership of our congregation. A coffee social will be held following the Divine Service. Parishioners are encouraged to participate in marking this significant day in the Church’s calendar and the life of the youth who will be confirmed.

The Sunday after the Ascension Service at Mount Calvary
On the Sunday after the Ascension, our Lord promises the Holy Spirit, that His holy apostles will be His chosen witnesses to the ends of the world, and that they will be persecuted for the faith. We pray for God’s Holy Spirit that we may witness to His saving acts and be strengthened to endure persecution for the love of Jesus’ name against those who hate us.
O King of glory, Lord of hosts, uplifted in triumph far above all heavens, leave us not without consolation but send us the Spirit of truth whom You promised from the Father; for You live and reign with Him and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

In adult bible class this week we set the book of Daniel in its Old Testament context in three ways. First, we will give an overview of the major periods of Old Testament history from the beginnings to the coming of Christ. Second, we will delve more deeply into the time period of the kings. Finally, we will look at when the major and minor prophets of the Old Testament conducted their ministry and the audience to whom they directed their message. Notes to go along with the lesson are available here. Our audio recording of this class can be listened to:
