Learn More About the Historic Liturgy

There are many who are searching for Traditional Churches near Litiz, PA and are seeking a better understanding of the Historic Liturgy. Check out the Liturgical Boot-Camp for Evangelicals – You’re an Evangelical. You’re used to the Praise Band, the lights, the long Bible Study and the altar call. Worship is an experience where I am touched by God and moved by the Spirit. Then, accidentally, you find yourself in a Lutheran Church, and think, “What the heck is this?!” “Where am I? What are these smells? Why is that guy in a white dress talking to the wall? This, friends, is the liturgy, the historic worship of the church of the New Testament. The liturgy is the church gathered around the Lord’s Word and Sacraments. The liturgy full of Scripture, full of promises, full of prayers, full of the comfort that Jesus wants to deliver to His Church. The liturgy is good. Listen to this 7-part podcast by Pr. Bryan Wolfmueller, “Liturgical Boot-Camp for Evangelicals.”

Interested in joining the Mount Calvary Memento Group? We invite men to gather around books that shape the soul and ground the heart in Christ. Our first reading will be The Spirituality of the Cross by G. E. Veith, a compelling reminder of what it means to live in the light of the Gospel rather than the world’s spirit. Mount Calvary Memento draws on the classical Christian rhythm of remembering who we are in Christ, cultivating a lifelong practice of reflection, gratitude, and growth. In a community of brothers in Christ we will read, reflect, and discuss themes of grace, discipleship, and everyday devotion. Join us as we remember what truly matters, sharpen one another in faith, and let the cross shape our daily lives. Together as men, we pursue depth, courage, and clarity for the Christian journey. Contact Jon Morren or Vicar Usner for more details.

Septuagesima Sunday at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church

This Sunday we begin the countdown to Lent. The title of our Sunday, “Septuagesima” comes from Latin word 70. Life isn’t just a random pile of days. Though we begin the trudge through Lent, we know that our Lord’s resurrection from death and His victory over sin and Satan is ahead. When days get long and troubles increase, we walk forward knowing that we walk not towards defeat, but eternal victory through our Lord, Jesus Christ. This Sunday we will hear of the Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard from Matthew 20:1-16. All of the workers work different amounts, but they are all paid a days’ wage. Because of this some feel that they were treated unfairly. Do we grumble against God when our life does not go as planned or we feel that He has shortchanged us? Our Lord aims to set our minds and hearts back on true ways of thinking and believing. He is gracious, loves us dearly, and gives us good work to do in His vineyard.
