Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Lancaster PA
The February Beacon Newsletter is Packed with Events
Here is a brief excerpt from this month’s Beacon Newsletter:
In November, I listened to a podcast through Issues Etc entitled, The Impact of Population Decline on Churches with Aaron Renn. I became engaged in what I was hearing and sought out Mr. Renn’s book Life in the Negative World at my local public library in Lititz. The library did not have this book in their system, but they offered to submit a request to purchase the book for me and they did! I just finished reading it, and I must say some of it was not easy to read; however, I found an understanding of the world we live in and how we got here and how we can live a Christian life in this post-Christian world. I found encouragement because most of what we are doing at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Lancaster PA is just what we need to do to shine God’s light to our community. I was amused at how often Mr. Renn used the analogy of light when encouraging his readers to shine God’s light, as this is OUR mission statement from Matthew 5.
I learned that as Christians, we must adhere to the Truth in the Bible, become active in your Christian community, we must strive for excellence in all we do, uphold our families, to name a few. Anyone who has a Lancaster County Public Library card may request the book. It may be housed in the Lititz library, but the library system is friendly and helpful and will transport the book to your local branch for your check-out.
Please let me know what you thought of the book. Mr. Renn closed his book with Proverbs 3:5-6, my mother’s favorite verse: Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. I suggest you take time to listen to Mr. Renn’s podcasts on Issues Etc and you may find yourself interested in reading his book. Todd Wilken interviewed Aaron Renn quite a few times, and I know I will be listening to all those podcasts. The podcasts can be found in here at Issues Etc. (Review written by Nancy Marshall)
