Mount Calvary Partners with the Lutheran Heritage Foundation to Bring the Catechism to Mongolia
At Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, we rejoice in the opportunity to join hands with the Lutheran Heritage Foundation (LHF) to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ beyond our borders. This fall, we were blessed to welcome Rev. Tom Zimmerman, representing LHF, who preached during our Divine Service and led an enlightening Bible class about the ongoing mission work of the Lutheran Heritage Foundation throughout the world.
A Mission Rooted in God’s Word
Rev. Zimmerman reminded us that the heart of all true mission work is the proclamation of Christ crucified and risen, the Gospel that alone brings forgiveness, life, and salvation. The Lutheran Heritage Foundation exists to make that Gospel accessible by translating and publishing confessional Lutheran books in the languages of people around the world.
Since its founding in 1992, LHF has published more than 1,200 Lutheran titles in over 160 languages, distributing over 3 million books free of charge. These include the Holy Scriptures, Luther’s Small Catechism, A Child’s Garden of Bible Stories, and other faithful resources that teach Christ clearly. Their work ensures that pastors, catechumens, children, and families have access to the same solid, biblical doctrine that we confess here at Mount Calvary.
The Lutheran Small Catechism for Mongolia
During his visit, Rev. Zimmerman shared how God is opening new doors in Mongolia, a country where Christianity remains a small but growing presence. For many Mongolians, the Lutheran confession of faith is completely new territory. Translating Luther’s Small Catechism into Mongolian gives pastors, teachers, and families a clear and simple foundation in God’s Word.
Mount Calvary is honored to partner with the Lutheran Heritage Foundation in helping to fund the translation and printing of Luther’s Small Catechism into the Mongolian language. This project will allow countless men, women, and children to hear the Gospel and learn the basics of the Christian faith in their own tongue.
As Rev. Zimmerman reminded us, faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the Word of Christ (Romans 10:17). When the Catechism is placed into the hands of a Mongolian believer for the first time, that Word is at work, teaching the Ten Commandments, the Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, and the saving grace of God in Christ Jesus.
Joining in the Mount Calvary Mission
At Mount Calvary, we believe that our congregation’s mission extends far beyond Lancaster County. Through the Lutheran Heritage Foundation, we have a direct hand in supporting the spread of the Gospel throughout the world. Every dollar given toward translation work is a seed planted, one that will bear eternal fruit in the lives of those who come to know Christ through His Word.
We encourage members and friends to learn more about this important ministry by visiting Lutheran Heritage Foundation.
