Jesus says to the nobleman whose son was deathly ill, “Go; your son will live” (John 4:46-54), and in the very hour Jesus spoke, the nobleman’s son was made well. The Word of Christ still accomplishes what it says. In baptism, absolution, and the Lord’s Supper, He declares His life-giving forgiveness to you, and it is so. This saving Word of God is the sword of the Spirit by which you are able to fight off all the onslaughts of the devil (Eph. 6:10-17). “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.” You may prepare by reading the Propers of the day.
Join us after the worship service for Adult Bible Class! In recognition of the month of October and our annual celebration of the Reformation, we continue our learning of the story of Johann Sebastian Bach‘s personal bible. This week we will conclude our study of J.S. Bach as we look at his cantata for the Ninth Sunday after Trinity. This cantata was based on the Gospel for the Sunday, the Parable of the Dishonest Manager from Luke 16:1–9 and was first performed by Bach on July 29, 1725. Mr. Gabriel Edwards will lead us through the Gospel and cantata so that we might have a greater understanding of our Lord’s teaching. As our congregation readies to enter our new sanctuary, we rejoice to consider our heritage of music and the Word of God.
