Mount Calvary Celebrates the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord
Join Mount Calvary and Calvary Church to Celebrate this Joyous Occasion
Please note that there is no Wednesday service this week. Instead, we will meet on Thursday (May 9) for a Divine Service at 7 PM to celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord.
We will welcome our sister congregation, Calvary Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in Mechanicsburg and their pastor, Rev. Luke Zimmerman. Ascension is their turn to visit us. On Epiphany each year we visit them.
An ice cream social will be enjoyed after the service.
While this service is often overlooked, it is the final of the three great feasts of our Lord. At Christmas we celebrate the Nativity of Our Lord and the doctrine of the incarnation. At Easter we celebrate the doctrine of the redemption of our Lord afforded in the gift of His death upon the cross and His mighty resurrection from the grave. Finishing with Ascension, we celebrate the doctrine of Christ’s exaltation at God the Father’s right hand, which is the promise of our heaven-going as well as His return. In Lancaster County, the Feast of the Ascension is extra special as our Amish neighbors are enjoying a day with family and friends. We gather, too, to receive Christ’s body and blood and renew in our hearts His teaching as we sing the hymns of this glorious day. Come join us!
