The Monthly Mount Calvary Church Beacon with September Announcements
In August and through September we will be using Divine Service. Setting One as the liturgy for Sunday worship. While the congregation has grown to know (and love) this liturgy (especially the canticle, “This is the Feast”) the Kyrie, because it is different, may be the portion of this service that challenges us most. The Kyrie in this service is longer than the one in the Setting 3 liturgy. The Kyrie in this service is more musically challenging. The Kyrie in the Setting Three service is very short. Only the words, “Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy,” are sung. In the new service petitions for the needs of the church, world, and congregants are added each time before the words, “Lord, have mercy” are sung. The congregation and pastor sing back and forth asking God to give us the peace that is from above, our salvation, for the peace of the whole world, for the unity of all, and for the holy house and those who offer their worship and praise, and for God to help, save, comfort, and defend His people.
