The Sixth Sunday of Easter
Private Confession and Absolution will be offered on Tuesday, May 16 from 4:00-6:00 PM. Historically, the church gathered for penitence and prayer four times a year during the four seasons. The church asked God’s blessings upon the fields, crops, and harvest, and would teach people both to use God’s gifts rightly, and to assist the needy. Around Ascension Day, this period of penitential prayer was observed. We are offering a time when you can come and make confession and receive absolution without an appointment. The open hours for confession are Tuesday, May 16, 4-6 PM in the church sanctuary. (If these times do not work for you, please arrange a time on this date or any other date.)
Our Midweek Service, will not be offered this Wednesday evening. Instead, we will celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord here at Mount Calvary with our sister congregation, Calvary Lutheran Church of Mechanicsburg, on Thursday, May 18 at 7:00 PM. An ice cream social will be held immediately following the Divine Service. Join us as we rejoice in our God who has conquered death and hell, and now reigns victoriously, upon whose return we anxiously await.
Prayer is the topic of our gathering this week. Jesus teaches us of our access with the Father through Him. While we have tribulation in the world, we have joy through our communion with our Heavenly Father who hears our prayers.
