Mount Calvary Church this Christmas Week

The recent passing of Hildegard Lamparter

Hildegard Lamparter died on December 23, 2023. She became a member of our congregation in 2014. In 2020 she moved to the Lutheran Community at Telford, PA, after increased medical and memory issues. We thank the Lord for her love and dedication to the congregation during her years here, and for the Lord bringing her safely home to His side. Blessed be her memory! Obituary | Hildegard P. December 31st Worship & Bible Class – Join In!

Jesus is presented at the temple at the age of 40 days. Aged saints expecting the Christ exclaim for joy when He arrives. Mary and Joseph marvel at what is spoken about Him. The purpose of Christ mission is explicated by these prophetic persons. He is the Savior of the Nations, the Light of the Gentiles, and the Glory of the Jews. Yet He is also a sign which will be spoken against (men will not believe) which will lead to the rising and falling of many in Israel. Christ is a sign that is still spoken against, yet those who believe are raised to new life as they receive the joy of His birth and His appearing to be their Savior and Lord. You may prepare by reading the Propers of the day.

Readings for this Sunday

Old Testament: Jeremiah 31:31-34

Psalm: Psalm 89:1-8

Epistle: Galatians 4:1-7

Gospel: Luke 2:33-40

Sunday School and Adult Bible Class will NOT be held on Sunday, December 31. However, you are invited to our New Year’s Eve worship service at 5 PM on Sunday evening (service of confession & absolution, non-communion). While many spend the last hours of the year in carousing and drunkenness, we gather to prepare for the day our Lord will call us home by confessing our sins and receiving His abundant pardon. Our service will be followed by a potluck dinner and BINGO! Come for food, fellowship and fun! Guests welcome – bring a friend or neighbor!
