The Biblical and Historical Lancaster Lutheran Church
Announcements for the week and Proper Readings for Sunday
Light for the World
Are you disappointed that you couldn’t make the campaign launch last Sunday? Good news, we have a meeting just for you! Farley Fry and Lynn Edwards will gather with all interested persons in the sanctuary after the service (in place of the Sunday School hour) to go through the campaign brochure and get you up to speed with what is taking place in our building project and capital campaign and answer all the questions that you may have!
Men’s Bible Study Breakfast
Mount Calvary Men’s Bible Study will meet at 7:30 AM on Saturday, September 30 in the Evangelism Wing at Mount Calvary. Come enjoy a hearty breakfast cooked by a fellow member (free will donation of $5), and good conversation with your brothers in Christ. This month we continue our study on manliness as we look at the life of Moses. Join us as we strengthen our understanding in our God-given roles as men in our lives, church, and world. (After the class is over, for those who wish to stay, some trustee projects may be available.)
Young Families Group and the Young at Heart
Mount Calvary’s Young Families group will meet Saturday, September 30 at 5:30 PM for a potluck (bring a dish or two to pass) and discussion-based study. After supper, the children will be excused to enjoy some organized playtime. We are starting a new study on Nancy Pearcey’s book, “The Toxic War on Masculinity, How Christianity Reconciles the Sexes.” Is masculinity “toxic”? Books have appeared with titles like I Hate Men and Are Men Necessary? We will be taken on a fascinating excursion through American history as we see that research shows that authentically committed Christian men test out as the most loving and engaged husbands and fathers having the lowest rates of divorce and domestic violence of any group in America. Christianity has the power to overcome toxic behavior in men and reconcile the sexes. Join us for this study as we talk about boys, girls, men, women, marriage, parenting, family, and the Word of God. If you would like to receive an electronic copy of the first chapter, please email the church office.
Local Outreach and Giving in Ephrata
We will be collecting donations for the men and women of “Good Samaritan Services of Ephrata” on Sunday, October 1. A list of needed items can be found here, Local Church Outreach
Mount Calvary Church Midweek Divine Service
The midweek divine service was held on Wednesday, September 27 as we observed Wednesday of the Sixteenth Week after Trinity.
The bulletin for the service is available here.
The sermon text is available here.
An audio recording of the sermon can be listened to:
October 1 Worship & Bible Class
Jesus takes issue with human dealings. The religious leaders don’t want Jesus to heal a man on the Sabbath, and as Jesus is in the house He notices everyone always taking the higher place and seeking glory for themselves. While Christ is rejected and hated for doing what is right, He does it anyway. Here we see Christ’s love. He comes for sinful humans that always judge things wrongly. He dies for us, taking the lowest place, to give us life, that we may be exalted. You may prepare by reading the Propers of the day. Join us for Adult Bible Class in the Evangelism Wing following our worship service! This Sunday, we will begin our study of Romans chapter 9. Paul wrestles with the unbelief of his own people and how they rejected the Christ.
