Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church This Week
Back To School Rally Day Coming This Week
Sunday School is excited to kick off another year of Christian Education on Rally Day, September 10th! On this day, the Sunday School teachers will be installed, new class rosters begin, 3rd graders will be receiving their new Bibles and a picnic at the church will round out this exciting Sunday! Hot dogs and the fixings will be provided along with drinks. Look for a sign up in the narthex to bring a dish. Games will follow the lunch and we will wrap up by 2 PM.
The service, usually on the first Wednesday of every month at 11 AM that was formerly known as the “Shut-in Service,” has now been renamed the “Wednesday Morning Service.” This name change highlights that anyone is welcome to attend this service who finds it easier to attend at this time or who will be traveling for the weekend. Come join us on Wednesday, September 6 at this informal service of Holy Communion and one sung hymn that lasts around 40 minutes.
Young Families Group at Mount Calvary Church
Young Families Group (and the Young at Heart) will be starting a new study on Nancy Pearcey’s book, “The Toxic War on Masculinity, How Christianity Reconciles the Sexes” in September. Is masculinity “toxic”? Books have appeared with titles like I Hate Men and Are Men Necessary? We will be taken on a fascinating excursion through American history as we see that research shows that authentically committed Christian men test out as the most loving and engaged husbands and fathers having the lowest rates of divorce and domestic violence of any group in America. Christianity has the power to overcome toxic behavior in men and reconcile the sexes. Join us for this study as we talk about boys, girls, men, women, marriage, parenting, family, and the Word of God. If you would like to receive a copy of the first chapter, please contact the church office and Click Here to Contact
The Thirteenth Sunday after Trinity
On Labor Day weekend we welcome Rev. Paul Rockrohr of Norfolk, VA to Mount Calvary. A 2015 graduate of Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Pr. Rockrohr will preach at the 9 AM service as well as lead Bible Class at 10:30 AM on the life of a U.S. Navy Chaplain and their role in the U.S. Military.
